Launch Potato Named One of Florida’s Best Companies To Work For

Launch Potato was recently named one of Florida’s best companies to work for in the small companies category. Christine Yaged is chief product officer and co-founder of Launch Potato, a profitable startup studio with high-growth opportunities, an awesome office location in Downtown Delray and a portfolio of quickly growing digital brands. "Two global retreats every year for staff" was listed as a recognized stress reliever.

Mighty Mug Recently Featured on Planet Money Podcast

Mighty Mug, the innovative coffee mug that won't fall over and spill when knocked into, was recently the focal point of a Planet Money episode. Jayme Smaldone is the founder and CEO of Mighty Mug. The episode exposes the fact that the United States Postal Service is heavily subsidizing foreign e-commerce shipments, specifically Chinese shipments, giving China-based competitors an incredible advantage over domestic businesses.

TaskUs Receives Big Investment From Blackstone

TaskUs recently announced that it received a significant investment from private equity funds managed by Blackstone. The companies did not announce the investment total. YEC member Jaspar Weir is co-founder and president of TaskUs, the leading provider of outsourced back office and customer care to emerging brands. This investment will help the company continue to grow.

Back to the Roots Receives $4M Investment

Back to the Roots, founded by YEC members Alejandro Velez and Nikhil Arora, recently raised a $4M investment led by Acre Ventures and Scotts Miracle-Gro. This investment will help the startup bring its mushroom kits and other ready-to-grow products (including tomato kits and aquaponic fish tanks) to a greater number of retailers.

The startup was already partnering with retailers including Target and Costco, but the money will allow it to sell products in more stores. This funding follows a $10 million investment made in 2016.

TerraCycle Canada Celebrates 100 Million Recycled Cigarette Butts

Recycling company TerraCycle has collected a total of 100 million cigarette butts through its Cigarette Waste Recycling Program, a free recycling program that diverts used butts from landfills. "The Cigarette Waste Recycling Program started as a small collection in Toronto and is now an extremely successful international program," says CEO Tom Szaky. "We thank all participants and the general public for supporting the cause and allowing the program to surpass such an impressive milestone."

Jennifer Barnes Recognized by San Diego Business Journal

Jennifer Barnes, co-founder and president of Pro Back Office, was recently named on San Diego's Next 40 Finalists List. This list recognizes San Diego’s top business leaders under 40.

As shared in SDBJ, "Barnes co-founded Pro Back Office in 2012 and has grown the company to be among the fastest-growing private companies in San Diego County with 2017 revenues of $5.52 million. Pro Back offers part-time, fractional resources to companies, from human resources help to accounting." See the full list here.

Carrie Rich to Host Two-Day Fundraising Seminar in NYC

On September 6 and 7, Carrie Rich will be hosting a two-day fundraising seminar in New York City. Rich is the CEO and co-­founder of The Global Good Fund, a nonprofit organization accelerating the development of high potential young leaders tackling the world’s greatest social challenges.

Says Rich: "This course is designed for entrepreneurs who are deeply committed to a cause and seek to bring others on board by raising funds. Students will walk away with tools, techniques and approaches that make entrepreneurs more effective in their outreach."
