YEC Member Company Back to the Roots Raises $5M

YEC member company Back to the Roots recently announced that they have raised $5M of additional funding. Co-founders and YEC members Alejandro Velez and Nikhil Arora explained in their newsletter that the funding will be put toward helping accelerate their mission to Undo Food™ and offer healthy, sustainable products to customers.

Velez and Arora started Back to the Roots started in 2009, offering urban mushroom farms and self-cleaning fish tanks. The company has expanded to cereals, seeds, and garden packs all to further their initiative.

The strategic seed financing round was led by Tony Robbins’ and Peter Guber’s startup accelerator, Agency of Trillions, along with additional new angel investors. Previous investors also joined the round. This is their first notable round of funding. Velez and Arora also have a crowdfunding campaign on CircleUp.

“We want to bring the same level of trust that families feel when they grow their own food, directly to the grocery aisle and ready to eat food.” says Velez.
