YEC member Glenn Grant and G2 Technology Group, of which he is CEO, recently hosted the AWS Boston Meetup, bringing members of the Boston tech scene together to discuss Amazon Web Services.
At the event were three presentation speakers, including YEC CTO Robert Calise, as well as G2’s Sr. Solutions Architect and Solutions Architect, Kiril Dubrovsky and Andrew Dawson, respectively. Moderating the event was Mark Annati, who runs the Boston AWS User group.
Calise spoke on the topic of how to scale WordPress with AWS, honing in on how YEC implemented WordPress and the challenges of architecting it in a high availability configuration that leverages autoscaling, CloudFront and RDS (relational database service). Though WordPress is a broadly used “DIY” CMS in the market, it isn’t designed for significant traffic surges and resiliency.
Dubrovsky discussed automating stack deployments and updates in AWS, and Dawson presented “5 Simple Tricks to Cost Savings on AWS.”
Aside from the presentations and networking, G2 provided complimentary drinks from Harpoon Brewery and Ansible provided dinner. Also, a handful of prizes were raffled off, including a pair of Red Sox tickets, a pair of Celtics tickets and a flying drone.
The next meetup will take place on April 14 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. For more details, check out the AWS Meetup Group here.
